"Then tell the Daniels' to suck my clit," is the first line we're treated to of Kim Kardashian's American Horror Story career. I screamed. It's not like I haven't heard Kim deliver some pretty culture-defining lines before. ("I'm not buying her a fucking pair of shoes, I bought her a fucking career," "You're the least interesting to look at," "Honey, why would you put a bumper sticker on a Bentley?"). But listening to Kim's Calabasas accent deliver, in near-perfect vocal fry, a line that sounds like the punchline to a "when men try to write strong women" joke, I was taken aback by just how much I believed her.
For those of you who refuse to interact with the Kardashian news cycle (I applaud your bravery), Kim now stars in the newest chapter of American Horror Story: Delicate. She plays former-actress-turned publicist Siobhan Walsh, a woman as severe as the cut of her pantsuit. Siobhan acts as the steady right hand to Emma Roberts' character Anna, a star on the rise who may or may not be losing her mind. As Anna struggles with the balancing act of growing her career as a Serious Actress and starting a family via IVF (or Ryan Murphy's dark equivalent of it), Siobhan is there to serve up some hard doses of reality. Example: "Do you think Jamie Lee Curtis liked getting all of those inane questions about being a Nepo baby? No, but she wanted the Oscar!"
As much of a jump-scare as it's been to see Kim's perfectly frozen face on national television, the horror genre does seem like a natural entry point for Kim to enter the Hollywood landscape. |
